This bass rules! Huge tone, perfect playability, beautiful color scheme with the black body and the tortoise shell pickgaurd, and the ability to switch between active/passive tones on the spot. Definitely has a lot going for it, it’s a lot of bass that will work for any project.
Whether you have pledged allegiance to either the world of passive or active pickups, there really is a time and a place for both, and this bass gives you the best of both worlds. Active pickups have their place totally have their place, they really sing in a Daft Punk sort of production setting. Passive pickups are a bit more classic sounding in a Motown type of way (gotta put that foam mute down by the bridge), and the beauty of this bass is the ability to switch between the two to get both tonal worlds for different situations. Each on their own sound great!
As an instrument, forgetting about the fancy electronics, it’s awesome. Straight neck, frets are seriously almost brand new, original rosewood fingerboard (new versions are Pau Ferrau, different wood than this), night and lightweight, and it’s in great condition for being 21 years old! This one was made in April on 2001. It’s a great bass through and through. The selector switch between the active/passive sides has a little bit of a pop to it when changing settings, but nothing too crazy and once it’s where you want it then it doesn’t make any noise. Great and versatile bass!
