I custom ordered and purchased this bass new in 1985. Being a huge fan of the Dixie Dregs, I was determined to have a fretless Alembic like Andy West! From the moment I received it, I realized it was just too beautiful and perfect to be a daily player- which is what I wanted and needed at that time. Over the past 30 years I have chewed up and worn out several fretless basses, but this one remains unscathed. It has been played VERY little. It has been kept in a temperature and humidity controlled environment it's entire life and is in virtually new condition. Like all Alembics, the sound, playability and build quality is second to none.
Comes in the original case.
When contacted, Mica from Alembic had the following to add about this instrument:
"The upper horn is borrowed from the 1985 Distillate shape and
is longer than the regular Standard Point body shape found on the
Distillate bass.
In the game of "name that Alembic" I would call this a "Custom Distillate"and then clarify the shape is a version of the Standard Point with a
longer horn."
