About This Listing

Here's a 1951 Fender Nocaster converted in a "Payola" style. These guitars were built by recording studio/musicians in the early 1950's in order to get paid 3 times for one track, by going through 3 different amps at once. Bruce Springstein's Tele was once setup like this (the article about it from Fenders Website is copy and basted at the bottom). Everything on the guitar functions as it was intended, and sounds amazing!! The neck dates to July 20, 1951. Original body, neck, paint, and bridge pickup. All the plates, knobs, pots, and output jacks are also from 1951. Two tuner gears have been replaced, while the others are original. The switch tips are repro's. The work done to the guitar done was in 1951, using '51 or older parts. The original neck pickup was modified and moved to the middle position, in order to put the P-90 in the neck. That pickup recently had to be replaced, and currently has a Seymour Duncan vintage style pickup. The neck pickup is a late 40's Gibson P-90, and as mentioned, the original bridge pickup to the guitar is still there (and sounds incredible). The guitar plays great, with low action down the fingerboard. Classic full profile Nocaster neck that fits like a glove in your hand. Once in a lifetime guitar here! Original thermometer case included!

Article about Bruce Springsteen's Nocaster with similar mod (taken from Fenders website):

"One of the most recognizable instruments in the world is Bruce Springsteen’s 1950s Fender Esquire. It may look unassuming, with its transparent butterscotch blonde finish and black pickguard, but this guitar is as iconic as they come. Boasting a Telecaster body and Esquire neck, the guitar had already undergone significant modifications by the time it landed in Springsteen’s hands (for $180!).

As the story goes, it was originally owned by a record company and rigged with four pickups that could all be plugged into the sound board—giving session players the ability to earn four times what they typically would with four different versions of a guitar track."
