3M Model 56 Vintage Analog 2" 16 Track Tape Machine • Famous Background • Excellent Condition
This machine was used on some of the most famous recordings in history, by some of the most prolific artists in the world. It hails from the premier Studio A at the world famous Amigo Recording Studios in North Hollywood, CA.
Engineers and staff that worked at Amigo, such as Loyd Cliff and Kenny Deane - who worked closely with Lee Herschberg and Donn Landee attest to the fact that this was THEE machine that was used in Studio A.
Some of the artists tracked and/or mixed with this machine: Carly Simon, Maria Muldaur, Arlo Gutherie, Doobie Brothers, Sammy Hagar (and Montrose), James Taylor, Paul Simon, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Rickie Lee Jones, Randy Newman, Van Morrison, David Sandborn, Van Halen, Nicolette Larson, Michael McDonald and Ry Cooder to name just a few.
Yes Virginia, Van Halen’s “Diver Down” was made on this very machine in 1982.
The machine works great, but should undergo some serious TLC at this point to make it 100%. It should be recapped and the relays should be replaced for optimum performance. The heads are in excellent condition, and the transport is great.
It will come with remote, cables and the Sound & Vision SV-1000 - to allow punching in, etc.
