I bought this neck at the Guitarmaker's Connection at CF Martin & Co sometime in the mid-1990s, the neck is likely from the 80s era. It was fully assembled, carved and finished at the factory and purchased at GMC exactly as you see it here, including the factory decal. It is an unusual neck in that it is not from any Martin spec production guitar, rather it must have been made up for a limited run of some sort or a custom model. The neck has a mahogany shaft with dreadnought depth heel and traditional dovetail joint. The neck is 14 frets to the body but instead of the solid headstock that is standard for Martin's 14 fret models this neck has a slotted headstock. The back of the headstock has the typical style 28 'volute'. The barrel of the neck is carved with a soft vintage "V" profile. The fret board is ebony, 20 frets total, and has a nut width of 1 7/8" (which was standard nut width for 12 fret slot head guitars at Martin up through the 70s) and a width at the 12th fret of 2 5/16." The position markers are vintage style 28 mother-of-pearl slotted diamonds and squares. The neck reinforcement is the square steel tube that Martin used from 1966 up until they began using adjustable truss rods in '85. The heel cap is ivoroid. The lacquer finish shows a few scuffs here and there from having been around the shop for 30 years but nothing serious. It is a very cool factory neck that would be a great unconventional addition to your next build project, or for use as a replacement neck on an existing guitar. Feel free to ask questions. Ships to US only, shipping/ins $40. Please note that the shipping rate is set to get the neck from the east coast (where I am) all the way to the west coast. If your shipping turns out to be significantly less I'll happily refund the difference. Or, send me your zip code for an exact shipping quote before you buy and we'll work that into our deal.
