Here is a rare version of the ‘Modèle Django’ guitar by Antoine Di Mauro in a sunburst finish. I believe this dates it to the very late 1950s or more likely 1960s. It also has the gold ‘Di Mauro Paris’ decal on the upper bout which was also apparently a ‘60s thing.
The top appears to be spruce, the back and sides laminated maple and the neck mahogany with what looks like an Indian rosewood fingerboard (although it could be a stained fruitwood as was often the case with the Parisian luthiers of the time).
The frets are good and the action just right for gypsy jazz. The tuners are the original yellow button Delaruelle type and the bridge and tailpiece are original but there would also have also been an ivoroid pick guard originally, now lost somewhere down the years. The sunburst finish is all original and rare to find in this condition with only a few minor chips and scratches on the back and sides (see photos) but the top is in excellent shape.
The scale length is 645mm. The back of the headstock has the ’A. Di Mauro’ branded mark.
The international shipping cost includes packaging and insurance by courier delivery, within Australia it would be no more than $120 and a lot less to most East Coast cities.
There is no case with this guitar, (although I could get one for an additional $200) but it will be well packed in a strong shipping carton for safe delivery
I also have another Di Mauro guitar listed for sale and if either one sells I may decide to keep the other; I just don’t really need two.
