Here we have an excellent condition used Maxwell kit sized 14x22/9x13/16x16/5x14"! This kit is finished in a unique full dress white marine pearl and was made for Steve by Greg Gaylord. The shells are six ply maple with a rounded bearing edge with no reinforcement rings. The orange and red sparkle diamonds used for the full dress are not inlayed to the white marine pearl wrap, which is easiest to see in the final photo of the listing. These sound fantastic and have a great classy look as well!
Steve’s notes: I have a fondness for this set since it goes back a very long time. I asked Greg to make this set as a bit of a tribute to the ‘full dress’ design. For those who are not familiar with this design, it harkens back to the 1920s. Back in those days the advertisements for drums were really funny. As an example: “You’ll earn more money if your drums are flashy”. Ya gotta love it. Anyhow, back in those days one of the high-end finish options was ‘full dress”. This typically utilized a wmp wrap, and then diamond shapes cut from different color sparkle wraps were applied to the shell. Back in those days they actually inlaid those diamonds, which was a lot of work! On our kit the diamonds are attached over the wmp wrap, since the cost to actually inlay the diamonds would be crazy. The kit sounds great and will definitely stand out on the bandstand. I sold this kit way back when, but I kept track of it over the years, and when the current owner recently decided to sell it I bought it back. Now it is time for it to go to the next owner. And remember, “buy this set and the band leader will pay you more” 😀😀
