Up for sale is a rare 3M M79 16/24 track recorder with 16 and 24 track heads, a spare machine worth of parts, a rebuilt capstan motor, new belt, rebuilt power supply, the original 3M remote and the rare (working) Sound and Vision Autolocator. Apparently this M79 came from Motown, as "Motown Engineering Dept." is hand-written in the manual that came with the deck.

Although the machine lines up very well and plays back the test tape extremely flat from 50-15K the audio cards have not been recapped. The price listed includes a complete recapping/overhaul of the audio playback/record electronics. If you would prefer to save money and do that work yourself feel free to submit an offer. Although the transport is very clean there has been some cosmetic damage to the wood veneer over the years. Meter #24 has as small crack although the meter still works properly. This M79 is currently set up as a 16 track, although the 24 track heads and additional cards are included.

Because of the nature of vintage analog tape recorders this machine is sold as-is on pickup, and I can offer no guarantee about the condition of the deck once moved and/or freight shipped. I do not recommend freight shipping but will assist you with whatever you want to do, as I know pickup is not always an option. Please contact me with any questions. Thank you!
