Center Square Music Altec Passive Direct Box DI Peerless Transformer

These are handmade DI Boxes featuring a vintage Altec Lansing transformer manufactured by Peerless. They come from a parted-out 70's Altec console, where they were used as microphone input transformers. Wired up in reverse, they make for an excellent passive DI box with loads of character/mojo.
Super simple: Two 1/4" jacks wired in parallel for input and through send (to amplifier, fx, etc), the transformer on it's original circuit board, a ground lift toggle switch, and an XLR output to your favorite mic preamp. All 1/4" and XLR connectors are highest quality Switchcraft brand- the same as would've been used on that classic Altec gear.
The impedance ratio is nominally 15k:150 ohms (10:1 turns ratio); you may want to use a buffer or effects pedal with passive guitar/bass pickups, to avoid loading issues (as is the case with most passive DI boxes).
These really shine on keyboards, synths, and drum machines (transformer core saturation on bass sounds is the best!). That said, these transformers weigh over an ounce. They're small, but far from puny.
Some considerations:
1) These are unshielded transformers, so they'll pick up stray magnetic fields more than, say, the mu-metal canned Jensen transformer in Radial's passive DI (also an excellent unit). So you'd get more hum if you kept it right on top of your 100W tube amp or something.
2) These are handmade, small-batch items. They have water-slide decals for the label. The photos make the label look super professional and seamless, but that's not the case.
There will be imperfections (tiny scratches, slight misalignments of holes, etc) on all or any of these, so expect the condition to be similar to a 'B stock' from a legit manufacturer lol. Please keep this in mind before purchase- the sound is what should matter anyway! And these have That Sound.
