About This Listing

Ryoji Matsuoka is one of the most famous luthiers in Japanese history and this is one of his earliest works that would have been built by the Master’s hands! His later guitars are also fantastic but as his popularity grew so did the number of people working in his shop. This is a rare chance to own a guitar built entirely by the master himself! There is a stamped “4” on the label but I am not sure if this is a model number. There are so few of these around that it’s hard to find info on them but the label has his stamp and his name written in Japanese. The guitar plays and sounds awesome!

This guitar has a spruce top and rosewood back and sides (Japanese laminate) Mahogany neck. It has several light scratches and small dings but no cracks or structural issues. There is some very light chipping of the clear coat on the edge of the fretboard and light “clouding” in the finish in some areas. Overall it’s in good shape especially considering the age. Comes in the hard case shown, case is in fair condition with a broken latch.
