About This Listing

D'Addario: making quality strings for over 300 years

Behind every set of D'Addario strings are over three centuries of fine craftsmanship. The D'Addario family tradition began in the tiny town of Salle, Italy, in 1680 where they made assorted instrument strings for over 200 years before relocating to New York in 1905. As the modern string making industry began to develop, the D'Addario family emerged as innovators by designing the winding machine most string makers still use today. And while their techniques have been modernized, the pride that goes into each set of strings dates back to the D'Addario family's earliest roots.

Product Overview
The D'Addario ECB81 XL Chromes are the company's best-selling flatwound bass strings. With a warm, fat tone and smooth feel that you'll only get from flatwounds, the ECB81 bass strings deliver a rich low-end that makes them ideal for jazz and R&B...though a certain Liverpool pop band made great use of flatwounds throughout their career. The ECB81s are for standard long scale instruments with scale length of up to 36 1/4", meaning they'll fit comfortably with pretty much every standard bass ever made.
