1999 Hamer USA Futura. I've researched the different iterations of the USA Hamer runs of Futuras. While I'm certain about the listed guitar, the history of the model below comes mainly from some "in the know" folks on the Hamer Fan CLub. I believe it to be fairly accurate, but wanted to at least point that out. It's important to note that the history and listed guitar are USA built models not to be confused with the Korean built models.
Hamer USA built a few runs of Futuras. The very first Futura was made in 1995. Then in 1996, 5 more were made, a couple of which went to Rick Nielsen in anticipation of the Limited Edition run. In 1998 and 99, approximately 36 Rick Nielsen Limited Edition Futuras were made that are best identified by the truss rod cover and metal switch control plate on the back. The final group was a very limited run of Korina Futuras and Standards in 1999 to be sold exclusively in Japan. This guitar is from that final run.
This guitar was built by the fine Hamer craftsmen in Connecticut in 1999 along with a few other Futuras and Standards and then shipped off to Japan to be sold exclusively there (see the picture of the Japanese brochure describing both models. Note, I do not have a physical copy of that brochure). I was fortunate enough to locate one for sale there and bring it back to the states.
The guitar itself is in excellent shape (with one glaring exception discussed below). I can only find one small indent (not through the finish) on the back. The pickups (Duncan 59 & JB set) and electronics are original. As with all Hamers, the fit and finish are spectacular and it plays great up and down the neck.
The guitar weight 8 pounds, 14 ounces.
The neck is a typical Hamer Vintage "C" shape. The neck measurements are:
Width at the nut, 1 3/4 inches and at the 12th fret 2 1/16 inches.
Depth at the nut, 15/16 inch and at the 12th fret 15/16 inch.
While the Futura is one of the more unusual guitar shapes, it is surprisingly well balanced and easy to play strapped on or sitting down.
There is one exception to this guitar being in perfect shape. While in its case at some point, the finish reacted with the interior of the case and there are some discolorations on the back of the neck, the back of the body and the bottom side of the body (see pics). These are cosmetic only and do not affect the playability or feel of any of the finish, it is smooth as glass. I believe this reaction was common to this group of guitars sent to Japan. I have seen a few for sale, and they always have similar discolorations on the back/side. The reaction probably occurred early on, but I still wrap the guitar in a thin cloth to protect the finish while in the case to prevent further reactions.
Included with the guitar is its original hard shell case and a few pieces of case candy, including a certificate written in Japanese and warranty cards in English and Japanese.
Please ask any questions you may have, I will respond quickly.
Shipping is estimated at $100 as the case is oversized. If the cost turns out to be less, I'll refund the difference. If it's more, I'll eat it.
Unfortunately, I am unable to ship outside of the United States as the rosewood fretboard is restricted by CITES for export.
