These Lyle’s always impress me so much! There’s a depth and power to them but also a delicate softness that I always seem to find in them!

As an instrument, this is about as perfect playing and sounding a nylon string as I could ever want or imagine. Action is low and effortless, but also super powerful and percussive. It perfectly rides the fine line between the worlds of power and playability with ease, which sometimes a guitar will fall more heavily on one side or the other. This one is a perfect balance between those two worlds. The string response is gorgeous, delicately played nylon string parts come singing out like a piano.

I love that solid red cedar top! Cedar is such a beautiful sounding wood, and red cedar is the holy grail of cedar. There’s such a beautiful softness to it that you don’t totally get with spruce, spruce has a bit of a sharper attack compared to red cedar. I love the soft and beautiful tone that you only get with red cedar, I recorded an acoustic EP in a cabin to tape with a 70’s Lyle with a red cedar top (not this exact one but a very similar one), and that’s the vibe of this guitar. The woods are beautiful all the way around, nice and dark mahogany back and sides. The interior lining is steam bent spruce! That takes a lot of talent, skill, and patience to do that versus kerf lining which is what you see inside 95% of acoustic guitars. There’s a picture that shows that lining if you’re unfamiliar with what that is, kerf lining looks like piano keys or lined up clothespins on the inside of the guitar, the steam bent spruce is a nice continuous piece of wood. It’s a super stunning instrument that a lot of care went in to!

It’s a had a pro neck repair, and I’m going to warranty this neck repair for eternity. It’s 90% out of the way of the back of the neck while you’re playing, it goes from the treble side of the first fret up into the tuner. You can feel a bit of a seam in the first position, but the guitar plays literally perfectly all up and down the neck and sounds so good that you just forget about it and get lost in the guitar. It’s such a stellar instrument, it couldn’t play or sound more perfect!

The price reflects the neck repair, all my instruments are ready for a pro studio the day you get them, and this is no exception. I know a neck repair is like buying a car with a salvage title of guitars, but hey we’ve all had good times in a car with a salvage title, and I’ve had salvage title cars that went longer and stronger than those that didn’t! This guitar rips, it’s ready for the next 45 years of life. Great instrument!
