For sale is an incredibly funky and rare instrument from Hofner. This is the model is the 191, a rare semi-hollow double neck guitar/bass manufactured by Hofner in Germany from 1961-64. It features two pickups for the guitar side and one for the bass, with typical Hofner control plates featuring a single volume for each pickup and multiple switches to get various tones. The guitar pickups are chimey and clean with a good thuddy bass response and nice clarity. The bass pickup is currently very weak and not working correctly, passing signal but an unnoticeable amount. The guitar neck is extremely easy to play, with normal action but due to its thin shape and extreme radius it fits in your hand extremely naturally and is very quick playing. The bass neck has high action, with 13/64th-16/64th of an inch at the 12th fret. The neck needs to be reset, the neck size and scale length makes it still quite playable but to get it low it could benefit from a lower bridge than factory and a neck reset. The guitar is semi-hollow bodied and weighs in at an incredibly low 7lbs 2oz, an unheard of low weight for a double necked guitar. Included with the instrument is the original hardshell case, a vintage Bobby Lee guitar strap that was purchased with the instrument originally, and a picture of the original owner playing the instrument in the early 60's with their band. This is a fantastic vintage guitar that is not just funky and super rare, but a surprisingly functional and great to play guitar that will have heads turning and eyes rolling everywhere you go with it.
