In Jewish mythology, a dybbuk (‏דיבוק‏ — means 'the act of sticking' ) is a malicious possessing spirit who is believed to be a dislocated soul of a dead person.
The dybbuk couldn't leave this earthly life because of the crimes (i.e. suicide) and it's looking for a human who can be possessed.
The dybbuk myth is similar to myths of demons or ghosts, which can be banished by exorcism.
It is thought that the soul which hasn't completed its purpose might reach it as a dybbuk.
