Check out our soundcloud recording to hear the loudest ukulele in our inventory!
I've estimated the date of this ukulele to 1928 because it has the nickel patent tuning knobs which started in 1923 and bar frets which continued until 1933. The actual date will be somewhere between those two dates. I just picked the mid-point.
Specifications:
- Mahogany body
- Triple bound top binding with ivorioid outer binding
- Single bound back
- 12 fret rosewood fingerboard with bar frets
- Small dot inlays
- Original nickel patent pegs
- Old Chip board, trap door bottom style case (In really rough shape but included regardless)
Condition:
- At some point in this ukulele's past, the head stock and the top was refinished as evident by the lack of a decal on the front or a brand on the back side and remainder of finish around bridge, etc.
- The interior brand is worn but still visible…thank goodness!
- The remainder of the ukulele appears to be the original finish with no over spraying. Their is some alligatoring of the finish as you would expect with an instrument of this age.
- There is a crack to the right of the bridge that is barely detectable. Even though it was hard to capture with the camera, I wanted to mention it.
- No warping is present, braces are secure the neck is straight.
- There is some finish irregularity around the bridge and to the right below the bridge
- Minor scratches and scuffs as you'd expect with an instrument almost a century old. No gauges or dents.
Playability:
- As you'd expect this has a nice vibrant tone that resonates nicely. Of all our uses, this one is the loudest by far. Really great sound!!!
- To me, the action is superb but would more than likely benefit from a professional set-up.
- Suitable for collector, professional player or dedicated passionate strummer/picker
About Curated Vintage Ukuleles & Instruments
I am a collector and dealer of vintage instruments with a particular focus on ukulele. On occasion other instruments come into my possession. I curate only fantastic examples of quality instruments from iconic makers. More than often, the original as found condition is what is presented here. I prefer slight wear to the finishes to authenticate that they are original. I do not like to have work done to my instruments unless necessary for playability or to stabilize a potential deteriorating condition. Unless noted, I haven't had these instruments touched in any way since they've been in my possession. I am always happy to meet serious buyers for you to play before you buy.
