"This is a 1960s Ludwig tambourine that was first used during the recording of our album Gimme Fiction. It was bought off Ebay at the suggestion of producer Mike McCarthy who made it clear that, by his book, 1960s Ludwig tambourines are The Best and that he was not interested in recording any other model. (Incidentally he was right, they are The Best.) Later the tambourine was brought on tour where it lived in Jim Eno’s percussion case and was played by Jim and Alex Fischel at live shows for years. The tape was applied to cover rough edges of the tambourine’s wood that were painful to grasp. Later still, the tambourine was photographed and used on the digital cover of the compilation Everything Hits At Once which was released in 2019." - Britt Daniel
