dbx 166XL Stereo Compressor / Limiter / Gate used by Delta Spirit

I might own as many comps as I own guitars 🤪

This unit was modded by someone in NYC (I can’t remember details from a craigslist purchase in 2012 🤷🏽‍♂️) also the the PSU was services so the noise floor is lower. It has that thick SSL VCA sound.

This unit was used on tour and in the studio by Delta Spirit. Also on a few Daytrotter sessions I engineered (PUP, Felice Brothers, Nick Hakim)
It lived mostly on snare top and “trash room”. Trash Room is a very important source!

My application lately with these units, has been using the gate to F’up drum machines in a cool way. I have a second one of these and I’m definitely keeping it just for that.
