About This Listing

Here’s a very rare vintage Matsumoku ‘Memphis’ Les Paul clone guitar from the 1970s. It packs fantastic tone that translates well through the dual Maxon silver plated humbuckers. The upgraded NOS tuners and knobs are in excellent working condition.

This guitar has a unique compound radius that is slightly rounder than 7.25’’ from the 1st to middle of neck, then tapers to an even 7.25’’. The neck thickness is .8475’’ at 1st fret, then .939’’ at the 12th. The profile feels like a medium C / D shape oval in the hand. There are 22 frets, that are .084’’ wide and they have been leveled, polished and dressed, with original nut width of 43.5mm. The tight grained dark rosewood board looks gorgeous with pearl block inlays, and is easy to play with the Gibson 24.75’’ scale length.

This guitar is a survivor with weather checking and plenty of natural age, complete with naturally aged chrome hardware and dual Maxon humbuckers. There is weather checking across the back of the guitar and various dings and relic wear from natural play. The headstock has a small repair towards the top by the Memphis logo. It does not affect playability and the guitar feels great. I’ll throw in a free Fender gig bag for shipping.
