Bogner Duende 30-Watt

Reinhold Bogner landed on the map in a big way after working with Eddie Van Halen. Since then his amps have been used by some of the finest players in L.A. and the rest of the world.

The Duende 30-watt is a 6V6 Class AB power amp with a 5AR4 rectifier. It features 2 channels—2 gain stages—that can be used separately or combined, using the included footswitch. The footswitch also has a third switch to activate the tremolo. Reverb and trem controls are located on the rear panel.

The character is somewhat Fender-ish. According to Toddzilla (our in-house tone king), it’s creamy without being super high-gain. But don’t be fooled: It is a LOUD mofo! No, really … even louder than what you were just thinking.

The accompanying cabinet (originally $799, now $649) is a 1x12” open back, with a Celestion G12H30 speaker. It’s very lightweight, but puts out plenty of sound. The cover and grille cloth don’t match the Duende head, so we suspect that of the two, the cab is a little bit newer—and we’re not sure how old that is—but we do know the 30W model was discontinued in 2012, so the head is at least that old.
