2012 Fender Pawn Shop Bass VI
Refinished in Nitrocellulose Seafoam Green
Made in Mexico
SPINAL TAP VIBES.
I bought this Bass VI from Guitar Center when they were first released in 2012. It was originally sunburst and had the weird Jazzmaster pickup in the bridge and the toggle-switch for pickup switching.
I've always wanted a Seafoam Green Bass VI, so I made one.
The gross, modern, plastic finish was completely stripped off of the body. The wood was sealed, lightly primered in white, and then finish coated in Reranch Nitrocellulose Seafoam Green and clear coat, with some touches of yellowed clear coat.
The headstock was painted to match and has a new waterslide decal applied over the finish, just like they did in the 60's.
The Jazzmaster bridge pickup (which was truly awful) was replaced with a spare AVRI Jaguar pickup I had.
The control plate is a Jaguar plate flipped over, and the switch plate is also a Jaguar plate. This was when 4-switch plates were not easy to come by, so there are only the three switches for the pickups, there is no fourth "strangle" switch.
The pickguard was custom cut from Warmoth's mint green three-layer material.
The nitro refin is really thin (to hopefully preserve any sort of resonance) so it does ding pretty easily, as you can see in the photos. I think it looks cool and aged. The finish has a bit of a satin appearance to it, but because it is nitrocellulose, it can be buffed up to a high gloss by hand. I just prefer the satin/matte look.
Strings are newish Fender Bass VI strings, and the guitar looks, plays, and sounds great. It's definitely the cheapest way to get a Seafoam Green Bass VI!
No case or gig-bag included.
