This pre-owned, 1996 Washburn "Cumberland" Jumbo J28-SCE 6-string
(Serial # 9607006) has been very lightly played! The lack of wear on the never dressed frets is a testament to how seldom this guitar has been used. Its richly grained spruce top and closely grained mahogany back & sides glow with a beautiful gloss finish (see pictures. Note: those are reflections. No major or highly noticeable dings or scratches) Beautiful abalone inlays crowning the headstock and accenting the silky rosewood fingerboard and rosette add even more color and sparkle to this lovely instrument. The signature Washburn butterfly bridge is made of Brazilian rosewood; the nut and saddle are crafter out of bone. Gold, lightly patina’d Grover tuners (18:1 ratio) make tuning easy and holds a tuning spot-on, even after stretching or bending notes.
Triple step binding all over this guitar! It’s opulently appointed with gorgeous binding that would give any custom shop guitar a run for its money!! Just another detail that makes people say WOW when they see and hear this guitar fir the first time!!
(Note: Full disclosure- There is a surface tension inclusion in the Nitrocellulose FINISH ONLY at the base of the neck where the manufacturer grafted the neck during original construction. It’s just above where the dovetail joint attaches to the body. (pictured)
This is purely a cosmetic imperfection on the heel of the neck. It’s been thoroughly inspected by D’Aquisto protégés and highly acclaimed NY luthier Joseph Jesselli (He’s my Uncle) and it’s guaranteed by myself to be a non-structural stress crack in the finish only. There’s also a repair on the headstock. It had fractured and separated by 1/8” (not broken off) this happened 15 years ago. No tuning, tone or playability issues whatsoever. Always tuned to pitch. Stays in tune forever.
The truss rod functions perfectly, the action is low and intonation is spot on. This guitar does not suffer any structural issues at all.
For an acoustic-electric, this "Cumberland" sounds great unplugged (solid spruce top, mahogany back and sides and jumbo body style help). But plugged in, its voice is even more amazing thanks to its Equis Gold pick-up & pre-amp system - a HUGE sound! Clean, clear and LOUD! This instrument is really impressive. This guitar originally listed for $1149.99, but you can own it for far less today!
