I have always wanted to create a travel jazz hollow body that was full 25 1/2 inch scale, all solid wood construction, and had the electronics of an L5 CES. That guitar, the 3/4 Five, uses a Benedetto Andy travel guitar as the base that I then heavily modified. First, I removed the original, short scale fretboard and replaced it with a 25 1/2 inch scale Brazilian rosewood fretboard. I had Jim Rolph build two PAF style humbuckers that I then installed in the spruce top. The controls are a master volume and tone that are also push/push switches to choose which pickups are activated. The most complex part of the design is the bridge. The 25 1/2 scale pushes the bridge very far down the body so that it can’t really drive the top acoustically. To compensate for that problem, I created a combination tailpiece/bridge assembly that only touches the body at its far ends (at the end near the strap button and at the end on the neck side edge of the bridge pickup). That design allows the tailpiece/bridge assembly to drive the top close to the center line of the f holes rather than at the line of the bridge proper. The finish is hand decorated with stain and oil based drawing, sealed with Truoil. The guitar has both a hard case and a gig bag. $75 fixed shipping to the continental US.
