BEHOLD THE BEAUTY of this insane instrument! 1966 Mosrite Joe Maphis Bass, as beautiful and unique as it is playable and practical as a musical instrument. Classic American craftsmanship that reads completely from itโ€™s own rule book of design, Mosrite was and always will be ahead of itโ€™s time.

Hand-carved spruce top, the curvatures of the wood are totally stunning. I love the more dramatic curves up by the horns, but the subtle way how the lower bout of the top falls like a wave into the walnut back is some true masterful craftsmanship. Thatโ€™s some true demonstration of power in subtlety. Not an eye catching detail that is screaming to be seen from a distance on a stage, but something Mosrite did as a detail for the owner of the bass who should be continually inspired by it.

Neck is straight and perfect feeling. Action is unbelievably low and every note is punchy, loud, and powerful. Some old Mosrites have skinny necks, this one feels nice and robust. it takes nothing to get used to it, you feel like youโ€™ve played it your whole life.

Bart-Simpson tuners (they literally look like his head but like 25 years before his existence). Super hot original Mosrite pickups, powerful presence that can cut through but not overwhelm a mix.

Great physical condition, it looks a solid 30 years younger than it is. Some scratches here and there as to be expected, but overall it has some really nice natural wear.

Really low serial number! Mosrite serial numbers records are not as cut and dry as some other manufacturers, but low serial numbers are always something that appeal to collectors.

Comes with the original form-fitting case! The case has some really nice support curves that hug the bass really nicely inside the case, it feels nice and solid.

I love Fender Basses, but even a sweet vintage P-Bass feels mainstream next to this thing. Itโ€™s got some 60โ€™s Rickenbacker vibes in there, but like the hollowbody Rickenbacker bass that is the holy grail of Basses. Definitely a bass that will both sits in a mix and have stage presence with some true character. For sale or Trade!
