1989 Heartfield EX-1
these are very rare and very cool MADE IN JAPAN guitars! part of Fender, Heartfield guitars were introduced in 1989 and were produced up to 1993. They were produced in the high-profile Fujigen Gakki factory in Japan, which also made the high-end Ibanez guitars.
condition this one is Blue Pearl Burst, set up with 9's and low action. the fret wear is very slight. neck is perfect and straight with no issues. this one has some cosmetic dings and player wear, not unusual for a guitar over 24 years old. the previous owner disconnected the mini toggle switches so it is wired without the boost switches. [a schematic can be found on the Heartfield fan site for instructions to rewire]. trem bar is not included. there is one ding down to the wood appx size of a dime that is pictured.
our opinion these are awesome guitars. The EX 1 has an alder body with bolt-on maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard. 22 jumbo frets, 25.5" scale length, nice flat 16.9" neck radius. the EXCEPTIONAL Gotoh Floyd Rose-licensed tremolo. it's loaded with three high-output single coil pickups (2 singles in a 'humbucker' configuration at the bridge, 1 in the neck position), 3-way switch with 1 volume and a Fender TBX tone control circut. excellent workmanship, the contoured body is very comfortable to play. very underated guitars. we've heard these were built for Fender by Ibanez Japan. our Ibanez rep saw this guitar and remarked that if they made this guitar in Japan today "it would have a street price of $2,000 or higher".
