The Dirty Bastard is a tribute to the original Dallas Rangemaster Treble Booster which was used on many of the classic British recordings of the 60s and 70s.
The original was known to produce incredible tones when used to drive the front end of a tube amp, helping to push the amp into harmonically rich overdrive. While not a clean boost by any means, this little unit adds some grit. It was thought to be the “secret weapon” Clapton used to get the tone on the John Mayall Blues breakers “Beano” album. The effect was also reportedly used by classic guitarists Tony Iommi and Richie Blackmore to get a more focussed lead tone from their Marshall stacks.
The pedal not only gives you all the great tones of the original, but also provides infinitely more control of your sound with the “fat” control taking your tone from glassy treble boost to full-on creamy mid boost and everything in-between.
