Do you recognize this handsome young man? No. He is not that famous X-rated star, "Buck Naked". Available now at HeadlessUSA is the world's rarest Steinberger prototype bass. This bass was Ned's earliest attempt at a carbon-graphite, neck-through-body bass guitar. This instrument will most certainly one day reside in a museum, as it exhibits Ned's earliest concepts of a totally new and breakthrough design. We've named it the "Platypus" because it's so unusual in appearance, yet, one can see Ned's imagination at work, as he re-thinks all of the most critical factors in modern electric bass design.
There are so many interesting features. Although Ned immediately saw the benefits of moving the tuners from the headstock and placing them onto the body, he simply used "off the shelf" bass tuners. We also see the beginnings of the swiveling strap-holder, attached at the center of gravity for easy balance. The headpiece area seems quite crude today, but this was just the beginning of his design evolution. A truss rod? Incredible! A great investment instrument. Grab it now before it goes on display at MOMA. The perfect gift for the man or woman who has everything.
This Steinberger prototype bass will ship in a modern hard-shell case including a copy of Premier Guitars December 2011 issue with a complete history and background on this bass, including an interview with Ned about this instrument's history. Purchasing your Steinberger from a trusted and knowledgeable source is critical when investing in these sophisticated and advanced technology instruments.
