Verne Q Powell
Handmade Flute
Closed Hole with C Foot
One Owner
Impeccably Restored!

To professional flute players the name Verne Q Powell needs no introduction. Arguably the maker maker of the finest handmade flutes in the world!

This is a solid sterling silver flute, handmade by Verne Q Powell in 1942. Clearly an example of the finest workmanship seen from the Powell factory. Solid silver, handmade with soldered tone holes, pointed keys, closed hole keys and a C foot. Replacement case in great condition. Serial number 468. Impeccably restored to better than new condition. Top of the line Pisoni pads were used. This flute came to us in excellent condition. Used only by the original owner who recently passed away and was sold to us by the family. No one else ever played the flute. For that reason there was very little wear, but having been stored unplayed for about 25 years, we had to remove dirt and solidified oil from the mechanism. Shockingly it kept the mechanism well preserved.
No surprise why these flutes are so highly regarded by professionals. The tone is like liquid gold! Gold springs give the action a light springy response. This beautiful handmade instrument is truly symphony orchestra quality! one of the finest instruments I've ever played and I've played and tested thousands! I would be honored to own and play a flute like this! But alas we're moving it along for another generation. Playing easily at A=440 this flute can be used for years to come.
Just restored this beauty using top of the line Pisoni pads, the best pads for a vintage/antique flute. Be assured that no tone hole filing was done or needed to be done. Some makers are now using synthetic pads covered with fishskin which we never use here. The synthetic pads vibrate differently inhibiting the maximum vibration of the instrument. In fact it's very hard to get them to vibrate at all. Pads made from natural materials vibrate along with the tone lending to a freer and more fluid response.

A flute of this quality is truly a find! Plays so beautifully and effortlessly. The tubing, .016" gives this flute a rich yet quick response. Plays easily at A=440 and slightly above.

Being a rare and highly sought after instrument there is no way to know it's true value except for the gorgeous music that you will produce.

If you are a serious flute player you won't want to miss out on this deal.

Very nice vintage Powell. FYI, #468 was finished on January 7, 1942. It was sold to E.F. Heckert, and according to the log is a "hand made American" model.

Dave
