About this listing
1964 Gibson SG Junior. Refinished in 1994 when I bought it 32 years ago. The face of the headstock is original black with Gibson logo as it was made. P-90 pickup. Original tuning keys. Hand oiled finish on back of the neck that is one of the smoothest guitar necks I have ever played. This guitar is in excellent playing condition with perfect medium c-shape action (I play with a heavy hand but the strings are low and I get no buzzing). The frets are in great condition. This guitar stays in tune very well and the intonation up the neck is really great. Playing condition: very good!Soundness of the guitar: very good.Finish condition: refinished but holds much character and looks like no other (classy, worn, legit). While it isn't the original finish (I refinished it when I got it as it had been spray painted silver), the finish is nice and nods to the originals while the gold stripes give it a unique character. You can see there is quite a bit of wear on the finish. The guitar has toured a lot and been on many many stages in the US and Canada. It has also been used to record dozens of demos and 3+ full albums. This is a really cool and special guitar with one of the best feeling necks out there. It's weight is a little more than a 1961 that I had (but it is still light and it is nice to have some density to the wood).Sold with a Gibson USA hard shell case that is plush lined (pictured in the listing). The case is in very good condition. Introduced in 1961, the SG Jr. replaced the Les Paul Jr. in Gibson's lineup. The specs of the SG Jr. were virtually unchanged from the earlier LP Jr, but for the thinner and lighter SG body. The early SG-bodied Juniors are incredible guitars, with their snarly and fat P-90 in the bridge position, complete neck access, simple design, and super-light weight. The neck angle is perfect, and the early 60's neck carve is fast and roomy.A wonderfully resonant solid body, with all the tone these things are famous for!
