1954 D'Angelico Excel...from his Golden Years, restored by Jim Triggs in the early 90's
The neck and Headstock were left un touched. I had a pick guard made for it, it's been well taken care of and looks almost As New
The Action is unreal and the sound is dreamy! The pick up was hand wound by Kent Armstrong especially for this guitar. This guitar has the original shop receipt made out by John D'Angelico himself. The buyers name on the reciept appears in the 2nd D'Angelico Log book, it's last entry on page #27. Interesting to note Jim D'Aquisto started working for D'Angelico in 54, he may very well of picked up the tail piece or the headstock over lay or he might of swept up the saw dust by the bench when this guitar was being made.
Owning one of the 1164 instruments D'Angelico made was a dream come true, the fact that it has a cutaway and is in mint condition...is the icing on the cake.
I have the original case and a D'Angelico Case Cover.
