About OS Version 2.0

Firmware version 2.0 addresses issues stemming from Akai’s earlier non-compliant SCSI implementation, significantly improving reliability—especially when used with MESA II and ReCycle 2.0 software. This upgrade eliminates the need to boot from the OS 2.0 disk, freeing system memory and enabling you to power on and begin working immediately.

Check Your Current OS Version

When you power on the Akai S3200 (non-XL), the operating system version is displayed as the first message along the bottom of the screen before the unit begins scanning the SCSI bus for drives and disks. If you need assistance interpreting this or have questions, please contact me.

Important Notes

If you see a “SCSI Waiting” message on power-up, this indicates a blown SCSI fuse. Resettable fuse replacements are available in another listing. If you are unsure or need guidance, please contact me before purchasing.

Installation Guidance

• Observe ESD precautions; chips ship in ESD-safe packaging.
• Install chips carefully with correct orientation; note the marked orientation notch on the side of each EPROM.
