RARE 1968 Lowrey Berkshire Deluxe Organ TBO 1 Vintage The Who Baba O'Riley Pete Townsend Chicago
Before polyphonic synthesizers and sequencers there were home organs like the Berkshire Deluxe. By using this organ's unique rhythmic settings and sounds and processing it's output through an EMS VCS3 (Putney) monophonic analog synthesizer, Pete Townshend was able to achieve the futuristic sounds of "Baba O'Riley" and "Won't Get Fooled Again" from the Who's Next album. He also used it's unique sound subtly on "Cut My Hair", "Doctor Jimmy", "The Punk And The Godfather" on The Quadrophenia album and on the song "Detour" from their latest album WHO (2019).
This instrument needs some maintenance to get it working 100%. The built-in Leslie speaker takes a while to get up to speed. It may need to be greased or adjusted. The top key on the lower manual gets stuck if depressed. The volume pedal is scratchy.
All the voices works as does the "Marimba Repeat" switch which was the effect used on "Baba O'Riley". All keys work as do all the bass pedals.
Other features:
- "Wow-Wow" switch turns the volume pedal into a wah-wah envelope filter control. It has its own amount knob.
- Glide switch on the side of the volume/swell pedal allows you to bend the note down by kicking it to the left.
- Built-in spring reverb.
- Built-in drum sounds that can be triggered from separate buttons or some by using the bottom keyboard or bass pedals.
- Vibrato effect.
- Built-in in speakers. Can get very loud depending on which voices are selected.
- 1/4" output jack.
- Chimes effect adds overtones to any voice.
- Other percussion effects.
- Repeat function with speed knob.
- "AOC" plays notes held on the lower manual only when notes are played on upper manual.
Includes: bench, music rest and TBO/TBO-1 Service Manual. The bench has a broken leg and can't be used without repair or replacement of the leg.
Measures 45.5"W x 34.5"H x 23"D without music rest.
