Fits all Fender Lead models and Stratocasters too!
Up for sale is this genuine Fender Lead neck, pulled from a 1980 Lead II, and made at the long-shuttered Fender plant in Fullerton, California. The rosewood Lead neck is harder to find than the Maple version.
History:
It's a shame the vintage Fender Lead guitars don't get the
respect they deserve. I purchased my first Lead II two years
ago, and was pleasantly surprised at the smooth feel and
easy action of the Lead neck. The Fender Lead's thin neck is
fast and easy to set up for a low action, making if perfect
for, well, lead guitar! This example is the earlier style,
more like a vintage reissue neck with its thin profile.
Specs:
Maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard
Slight "V” profile with a 7¼" (184 mm) radius.
Neck width at nut =
1+5/8" (40 mm).
Depth of 22mm.
Truss rod adjustment
at heel of the neck.
21 medium frets.
Original nut installed
25½" scale length.
Bridge uses a string
spacing of 0.404" (10 mm).
Condition:
Very
good, especially for its age. This neck played fine as-is
before removal, with low action and no issues. There is
some wear to the original frets, mostly confined to the
first three frets. There is also a little wear to the
fretboard in the same area, which can't be felt while
playing. Moving to the headstock, there are two minor
cosmetic issues: some rash/small dings on the upper edge
and a bit of the wood is missing below the front of the
low E tuner hole. There is no wear at all to the original
Fender logo.
The rest of the neck is in really great shape. The
only ding I could find was a tiny dent is the center of
the back of the neck. It is small enough that it can only
be felt if you run your fingernail over it. Lacquer wear
is nil, and as you can see, the neck's lacquer has aged
and yellowed nicely. This is a smooth playing and handsome
neck.
What else? The neck's original factory nut is still
in great shape, and its truss rod turns freely. Like most
of the components in the early Lead II it was pulled from,
this neck was actually made in 1979. The date code on the
heel of the neck deciphers to it being made in the 32nd
week (32) of 1979 (9) on the 4th day (4) of the week
(Wednesday).
Installation Notes:
This neck is a perfect fit for any Fender Lead
I, II or III body, not too hard to find on eBay (see my
other auctions!). It will fit a standard Stratocaster body
too. The headstock's tuner hole diameter is the usual
standard (10mm). For a mounting plate and screws, use the
standard Fender "F" style 4-bolt.
Fender necks are easy to install, but be aware
that it may take some expertise to adjust it for your guitar
and bridge. If the action is too high (hard to play) or too
low (the strings buzz) take it to a pro for a truss rod
adjustment and intonation. If you don't know any good
luthiers, ask around your local music shop - they'll know
one.
The price includes:
The bare Fender neck as pictured. No mounting screws or
other hardware is included with your bid, but I have a
mint neck plate with screws up for
sale too if you need them. NO
CHARGE in the USA for shipping other items with this neck,
and only slightly higher if shipped out of the USA to
cover the extra weight.
