I went to a Ben Folds radio recording in Sydney once and and asked him how to mic a piano. He told me to get a set of Helpinstill pickups and he was right! I ordered these from the US, installed them in a spinet and toured up and down the East Coast of Australia with them. Easily the best live piano sound I got.
There's a little rubbing of the rubber coating from inserting and extracting them but they are still in great shape (check photos). There are zero exposed wires or problems.
With the extra magnet bar, you can install them in just about any upright. I still have the installation hook too.
