I wanted a 5 string P-Bass but the Custom Shop wouldn't give me what I wanted so, with the help of master tech Mark Arnquist, I rolled my own. Warmoth basswood body for it's light weight and old school tone, graphite rods in the neck for added stiffness and lighter weight and Hipshot Ultralite tuners, partly because they work really well and are light weight. The bridge is a Kahler fixed which bumps the tone and sustain up a notch. It's about the only thing I didn't obsess about light weight on. The pickup is a Bill Lawrence 46 run passive. The backrouted body and dual battery box was spec'd to take off more weight and in the event I ever had the bad judgement to put a preamp in a P-Bass. It functions more as a place to put your stash or whatever. For those with a sense of humor the headstock sports a decal from the great unsung Norwegian luthier, Ole Ferden, not to be confused with another manufacturer. As you might guess the primary goal of this build was to minimize weight (8lbs 2oz) and maximize the sound. It's been a success on all counts. This is a great working mans bass that won't break your back or your wallet.
