The Case...
This instrument comes in an era correct Gibson Custom Art Historic Les Paul Case. It has a black exterior with a red interior. It holds the guitar very well. Inside the case compartment sleeps some of the original paper work for this instrument that dates it to 1998.
The Guitar! Fat 50s Neck | 8lbs 5oz
This is a DREAM guitar. A Korina body and neck custom shop Les Paul with an insane quilt top! She is a show stopper.
These korina LPs are quite hard to come by and this one is in very clean condition. It has some light signs of usage such as light picking scratches and handling marks and some tarnishing to the nickel hardware, but no major dings or gouges to speak of. There is some finish checking in the cutaway area, but besides that - it's all beauty.
The quilt maple top is stunning, breathtaking... beautiful - but what really makes this example special is al the intricate wood grain lines on the sides the Korina body. I love all the lines on the sides. This is one you have to see to believe!
The screws for the truss rod cover may have been replaced with larger ones. The truss rod functions, but the threads are a bit past the top of the adjustment nut. It is possible two pots have been replaced as two are CTS with 1997 pot codes and the two volumes are Gibson branded. Wiring job is very professional if they were replaced as it looks stock. The tailpiece is full weight so that might be a replacement part as well.
This is built similar to a R7, R8 or R9 guitar, however it has no markings that signifies either. The serial in this case simply means 1998, not necessarily R8. It was built with long neck tenon construction, abr-1 bridge and has a really thick neck. The only main 'historic' spec that is not present is thin binding in the cutaway as this one has thick.
Conclusion
This is a dream guitar. You won't regret buying this beauty!
