Don't just buy one... Build one!

Make your own world-class USA Ribbon Microphone in the comfort of your own home or workspace... Even on your kitchen table. Videos and fully-illustrated plans guide you through the process, and demonstrate each step in detail.
You'll:

  • Cut and corrugate fine Aluminum foil to make the ribbon
  • Form the screen and solder it together
  • Build the connector plate and install the USA OTA-2 output transformer
  • Build and wire the Ribbon Motor that holds the ribbon foil
  • Lay the ribbon foil in to the motor, stretch it to the proper tension, and clamp it down
  • Perform a final assembly that puts everything together

NOTE: It's not a kid's puzzle, but it's not rocket science.
It's also not imported from overseas with a translated instruction manual. Building an Austin Ribbon Microphone takes some patience and fine motor skills, and kids as young as 13 have made the microphone. Everything is explained and demonstrated in the videos and plans, and technical support is an email away, usually returned that evening.

Specialty tools and jigs are included in the kit, but you'll need a few common DIY hand tools like a soldering iron, small screwdrivers, wire strippers, and a razor blade or X-Acto knife.

My kits are used every semester at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, UNLV in Las Vegas, and are recommended as lab projects for High School and College engineering and audio programs across the country.

People love my kits, and they love to brag about them. So please search YouTube for videos from people who have built my mic, or just Google "Austin Ribbon Microphone" for customer reviews, blogs, time-lapse builds, magazine articles, photos, and information.

Sadly, I can't upload the PDF of the specs and frequency response to Reverb, just a screenshot. (But you can see it's REALLY flat!) Please write me, and I'll send you the PDF.

FREE SHIPPING to any USA address, or Military APO, FPO, etc.
(One kit was even built on the hood of a Humvee in Afghanistan!)
