About This Listing

Custom 'LUX' MPC3000 LED Display.
White on Black and White on Blue Available (Negative)

This Negative Black/BLUE LED display has a number of unique design features.

1. Custom LUX (160x48) Japanese FFSTN (Negative) Tri-Axis LCD panel for improved side to side lateral and 6o'clock desktop view.

This special custom display was designed specifically for the MPC3000.
NO brackets or adaptors are required to install !
The display connects with the existing ribbon and bolts to the existing mounting points, the exact same way as the old display. Until now, its not been possible to upgrade the MPC display in this way.
The size of the graphics area has been increased to match the dimensions of the MPC housing. Visually it now looks much larger, neater than the old LCD. Pixel size, position and spacing are now uniform, symmetrical, and supersized for a custom look !

2. Optimised display contrast to match the front panel MPC contrast potentiometer.

This display has been designed to match perfectly the existing contrast control on your MPC. Midway (12o'clock) on the contrast potentiometer is the optimal setting, leaving adjustment either side.

3. Oversized LED backlight.

Largest possible backlight footprint, keeping LED's away from the viewing area to avoid unwanted lightspot. The result is a flat, even background / border with minimal imperfections. With this black negative display, the backlight design was very important. If the border was patchy and uneven due to LED lightspot, it would ruin the look of the display.

4. Custom AA optomised metal bezel.

The metal bezel on this display has been specified to within 1mm of the active viewing area. This is an unusual feature not found on any other display. The result when combined with the oversized LED backlight is a perfect looking negative display, with a flat black border. The NEW flame polished viewing window attaches to the display frame to complete the installation.

5. Crystal Clear scratch resistant viewing window.

NEW Precision cut / screenprinted viewing window. Direct replacement for the old viewing window with black border. When combined with the oversized
Tri-Axis Display the new custom look is complete.
The flame polishing on the edges results in a nice optical sparkle to the window, it's the perfect addition for the new large display. I had these produced specifically for this MPC modification, the quality is superb.

6. Custom 5000K Pure White LED's.

The LED's used on this display are pure white 5000 Kelvin types. They were specifically requested. I wanted pure white light to maximise the display contrast. Combined with the backlight design, custom bezel dimensions and the highest quality 'FF' double film compensation / polarizers. The final result is a display that looks nearly like an OLED, nearly ! Its as close as it's possible to get with a Negative Black LCD.
Its very difficult to get the black display 'right'
A significant number of revisions were required during design to achieve this aim.
Marginal gains philosophy was applied to everything, the collective result is, indisputably, the best looking Negative Black LCD available.

7. Fully adjustable backlight dimmer.

Attached to the display is an adjustable trimpot potentiometer. This is used to set the backlight brightness, then tucked inside the MPC out of the way. Combined with the existing Akai contrast knob, complete control over the contrast and brightness of the display is possible to suit your own requirements.
*Contrast and brightness are seperate functions*
The display potentiometer is spun (anticlockwise) to brighten or (clockwise) to dim. Trick is, not to boost it too much. When its clearly readable @ arms length, it's bright enough. There is a point, a sweetspot, where the graphics are not too bright and not too dim, the background is as black as possible and it looks amazing.
Armed with the backlight dimmer. Its possible to dial in this sweetspot perfectly. It simply needs fine tuning. The display can be connected up, screwed in, MPC reassembled, switched on and set up from your normal viewing position.

This special large LUX display was designed specifically for the MPC3000. A lot of time and effort has went into the design and manufacturing. The pursuit of perfection, means the display is built by 2 different companies. One to produce the special Tri-Axis glass. The other, the chip on board and final assembly. The selling price is a reflection of the costs and the many hours spent designing it. This large display is now the only way to correctly repair/upgrade your MPC3000.

NO soldering is required !
NO modifications are required !
NO brackets are required !
NO adaptors are required !
NO cables are required !
Display is completely Plug N Play !

The tooling and production costs, factory MOQ etc for this design were considerable. I won't break even on the costs for quite a while. Please keep this in mind before msg about the price. The small Tri-Axis requiring the metal bracket was 125 + the cost of the metal bracket. This one is nearly twice the graphics area size (160x48) The additional cost reflects the additional design, tooling and production costs. Having a display this size produced is very expensive. The additional cost is necessary. The display is amazing and unlike anything ever produced for any Akai previously.

**Under NO circumstances should anything be soldered or attached to this LED display. Connect it up by its rainbow ribbon ONLY ! Nothing else is required ! The old display and backlight should be removed completely. You can, also, if you choose to do so, remove the (NICHIA) backlight inverter. That will remove the buzzing/whining you may be already hearing, or prevent it from happening in future. Instructions available on request**

***This display is specifically configured to upgrade your MPC3000. if you need a display for a MPC60 see my other listings. The viewing angle is set during manufacture @ 6o'clock view. Correct for a desktop instrument. If you need a black display for your Akai rack sampler, see my other listings. The displays listed there are 12o'clock view optimised for rack use. The displays are NOT the same. Its important to fit the correct type, otherwise the look and functionality will be badly compromised***

**this listing is for one (1) graphic display only. MPC housing pictured is NOT included**

Simple Plug N Play instructions available on request !
