Guyatone GA-620 1960's Vintage Combo Amp
This is a rare bird!! It is a  Guyatone GA-620 amp (not so rare in itself) but this one is covered in a blonde, sparkle tolex. I have had 4 of these amps previously and all of them were covered in the tan, 'Alligator' tolex.  I have never seen one like this.
It has been completely serviced:
  • all the old electrolytic caps have been replaced with Mallory 150's (see photos) and the filter caps have also been replaced.
  • The tone caps are all original.
  • I installed a 1/4" speaker jack on the back of the chassis to make it easy to swap out speakers or connect the amp to another speaker cabinet.
  • I rewired the reverb tank and replaced the old proprietary connector with standard rca jacks.
  • I also  replaced the old, 2-prong cord with a 3-prong, grounded power cord that is grounded to the chassis.

Everything works! The tremolo is smooth and silky (bias wiggler type) and the reverb, despite its small size is  quite nice! This amp is clean up to about 7 or 8 and then it starts to break up in a very warm, smooth way.

Due to the Japan Post Offices new regulations, they will no longer accept guitar amps with speakers in them (Long story, it has to do with magnets  . . .).
As such, I have removed the speaker.  Once you get the amp, all you have to do is put in the speaker of your choice, connect the leads, plug it in and you're ready to go. It will probably take you 15 minutes total. I will include a cable with a 1/4" jack on one end to facilitate installing the speaker.

This is a really nice amp that you can crank up and get a nice warm distortions without blowing out your ears. It would be great for studio work, or small gigs or large gigs  if you mike it.  I think it would make a very nice harmonica amp as well.  I have sold a couple of these amps and everyone really loves them: clean tone with a very nice, smooth break up!
These are pretty close, circuit-wise,  to the old Fender Princeton Reverbs, but the power tubes are 6AQ5 rather than the 6V6 tubes that Fender used.  .
The amp will ship with a copy of the schematic.
