1980 Kramer XL-8

1980 Kramer XL-8. This bass sounds like a piano on fire being pushed of a cliff. If you know what this is I can't really fill the voids. For the uninitiated, eight is better than four because 5 is worse than twelve.
This example is unmolested and well preserved. Original pots, pickups, tuners, bridge, nut, knobs, frets, ect...
It plays well but suffers the same fate as all of these Kramer eight bangers do. More relief in the neck than is necessary. A compression fret cures all that will ail you. It's normal. Your local luthier will confirm as much. Hell, even Pre-War Lloyd Loar Gibson F-5 mandolins need a new fingerboard due to incorrect fret placement. Those cost a quarter million bucks! And tell me the last time you saw a Stradivari violin with the original neck for under $1.6 million. Never, that's when.
