With 13 velocity-sensitive pads, 850 ready-to-play sounds, and the ability to import sounds, the Roland HPD-20 takes hand percussion to the next level.

A Handy Way to Perform with SuperNATURAL Sounds
Not just a drum pad, the Roland HPD-20 HandSonic hand percussion controller can serve many purposes in the studio and out -- use it as a traditional standalone hand percussion instrument, a MIDI controller, a tactile surface for performing with virtual instruments and effects, and much more. Tap or drum on the HPD-20 to experience a variety of responsive, built-in SuperNATURAL sounds and multi-effects, or even your own custom sounds imported from USB flash memory. Equipped with 13 pads, the controller has all the surfaces you could want for playing onboard sounds and external MIDI instruments, recording MIDI and audio performances in your DAW, and so forth. If you feel the need to expand your setup, turn the HPD-20 into a compact percussion kit by using the trigger inputs to add on a Roland pad and hi-hat controller. Whether you're a drummer, percussionist, producer, DJ, or all of the above, Roland's HPD-20 provides a handy way to express yourself through sound.

Hands-On Control
On the HPD-20, you can perform traditional acoustic hand percussion techniques as well as explore your creative side with unique soundscapes suitable for EDM, ambient tracks, scores for film and games, and more. The HPD-20 controller's 13 velocity-sensitive pads are presented in a circular layout with different pad sizes, so you never have to move your hands too far from center base. To play it, you strike the pads or touch or press a pad to dampen or mute another pad's tone, adjust its pitch, and so forth. Toy around with tonal variations by changing the way you strike the largest pads, and manipulate other aspects of your sound by hitting the Roll button, turning the Realtime Modify knob, or waving your hand over the D BEAM.

So Many SuperNATURAL Sounds to Play
It's only natural that this Roland controller would be packed with SuperNATURAL sounds. At your command are 850 onboard SuperNATURAL sounds, including ethnic percussion instruments from around the world, melodic and orchestra percussion instruments, traditional drum kit sounds, and various electronic tones. The HPD-20 comes loaded with a total of 200 kits, including 100 ready-to-play kits, suitable for just about any playing situation or style.

Import Your Own Custom Sounds
If that's not enough for you, add up to 500 of your own WAV sounds and play them from the HPD-20's pads. You can transfer your sounds via USB flash drive to the controller, where you can then assign them to pads and create your own kits. When choosing which sounds to import, don't feel limited to drum hits; take advantage of the HandSonic's 12 minutes of available time and import complete phrases, backing tracks, looped effects, and more. All sounds, whether they're built-in or custom, may be edited on the HPD-20.

Deep Editing and Dynamic Multi-Effects: A Tweaker's Delight
You can lose hours tweaking every little thing on this percussion controller. You can edit every instrument individually by modifying volume, pitch, decay, and other parameters; you also have the freedom to layer two sounds together and assign parameters to blend or switch them dynamically based on your playing velocity.

Three independent multi-effects engines, each of which has its own set of 25 different effects, offer fun sound-shaping options, from standard chorus and echo to fierce FX like distortion, filter, and bit crush. With the Realtime Modify knob, you can adjust pitch and effects as you perform for expressive, instantaneous sound shaping. Apply ambience effects and EQ to an entire kit to make it all your own.

Perform and Record Wherever, Whenever
Record a performance or song idea on the fly with the Quick Rec function, which you can use with or without the built-in metronome to keep your tempo in check. When you've got something good to share, it's easy to save your recordings to a connected USB flash drive. You also have the option to back up your HPD-20 user kits and other settings to USB memory.

Want to use the HPD-20 with your DAW? No problem -- connect a Mac or PC to the controller via USB and use the HPD-20's pad interface to play virtual instruments and record beats in your favorite music-production software.

Connect External Devices and Do Even More on the HPD-20
The TRIG IN jack allows you to connect a range of different Roland pads for stick playing, as well as a kick pad for making beats from the floor. What's more, a dedicated jack lets you add a Roland hi-hat controller and turn your HandSonic setup into a compact percussion kit.

MIDI I/O makes it easy to trigger HPD-20 sounds from electronic drum kits and keyboards, as well as play HPD-20 sounds on other instruments.
