About This Listing

What makes this guitar special: This is a fantastic vintage Japanese-made Epiphone semi-hollow body bass with as much character in look as it does in sound. The double-coil pickups have excellent character and vintage vibe with their classic low end thump, mild sustain, and woody-sounding mid-range, all of which is beautifully complemented by its semi-hollow body build. The neck is a nice, round C shape that plays easily from the nut to the cutaway. The body sports a killer Cherry Red finish that looks even better with aged binding and a light rosewood fingerboard, both of which help to create its warm palette. The body has great natural resonance, making it super satisfying to play even acoustically. In addition, barring the binding, the entire bass is in fantastic condition for its age and should have no trouble finding a proper home.

Condition: This bass is in good condition overall, if not better. A majority of the body and neck are incredibly clean for 40 years old, and show very few signs of major wear, but the binding has separated from the top in the cutouts and looks to be reglued. It has separated slightly in other places, but is still stable. Overall, it also has the normal dings, dents, scratches, nicks, chips and scratches from being played, but otherwise is still in great shape. The frets show only light wear and still have a considerable amount of playing time left in them. The neck is comfortable and the truss rod is functioning.

Body: Double cutaway semi-hollow body in Cherry Red finish. Multi-ply top binding and single-ply back binding. Bound F-holes. 4-saddle adjustable bridge with rosewood base. Chrome and wood trapeze tailpiece. Abe Lincoln-style top hat control knobs with gold inserts. 4-ply raised pickguard. Missing bridge cover.

Neck: Rounded C shape 3-piece bolt-on neck and bound rosewood fingerboard with offset dot inlays. 1 9/16” nut width. 30” scale. Closed-back tuning machines. Bound headstock.

Electronics: Double-coil pickups in the neck and bridge. 2 x volume, 2 x tone controls. 3-way pickup selector.

Weight: 6 lbs 10.6 oz

Playability/Sound: The rounded profile and slim nut width make the neck easy to play and comfortable in just about every position. The pickups have some nice vintage thump with mild sustain and a slightly boosted low-mid range that gives it a bit of genuine woody sound that is highly characteristic of hollow and semi-hollow body instruments. Sounds great in either position or centered.

Case: Includes gigbag.
