This
is a vintage 1966 Epiphone Bard FT-112 12 string acoustic guitar in the
original Natural nitrocellulose finish that's beautifully aged to a
golden hue. Please see all the pics. This guitar was made in the
USA at Gibson's Kalamazoo plant in 1966. Roy Orbison famously played
this model, using it to write and perform many of his best-known songs,
including his biggest hit, "Oh, Pretty Woman" - Epiphone even reissued
an Asian-made version of it. Features include a multi-bound solid
spruce top, solid Mahogany back and sides, Mahogany neck, a Rosewood
fretboard with pearl dot inlays, Rosewood bridge, and original Kluson
six-on-a-plate tuners. It's essentially a 12 string J-45, built with
the same materials by the same craftsmen who built the 60s J-45s. This 47 year old instrument is all original, structually solid with no
cracks or repairs that can be seen. Cosmetically there ares scratches
and wear around the soundhole(please see the pics). It's being called a
project guitar as the action is high at the 12th fret(see the pic)
although the neck is straight with the truss rod functioning properly.
The bridge has pulled up slightly and the neck needs a reset, now or
later, so it's being sold "as is" with no returns. It's currently tuned
down 1 step(E Flat) and plays well in the first or "cowboy" position
and sounds fantastic. This guitar has a warm full tone that would record
very nicely as well as sound great live. The frets are in good
conditon overall with some wear on the first three, and the braces, neck
joint and bridge all appear to be tight. The used chipboard case shown
is included but the handle is missing. Thanks for looking!
