All mahogany archtop guitar made by Kay Musical Co - Chicago, circa 1951. -- Silvertone was Sear's in house brand and they bought from both Kay and Harmony at the time. -- Here the headstock, f-holes and 25 7/8" scale all indicate Kay. It has original no-line Kluson tuners, which now have new buttons. I've put on a new pickguard and a Sequensator compensated tailpiece. -- There is a screw in the neckjoint covered with a veneer cap and putty to hold a neck reset in place. -- The string height at the 12th fret is 1/8" at the 12th fret, and it plays well there up and down the fingerboard with no buzz or flat notes.
Acoustically this guitar has a darker sound than a spruce top - and a sustain that rings on and on at the end of a note. The more I play it the more I like it. -- I've posted a sample on Soundcloud.
Ships in a chipboard case.
Length - 41 " Scale - 25 7/8"
