The Excel may be Alembic's "budget bass" with simple electronics layout and a set neck vs. neck through design, but the build quality is the best in the business. Everything on the bass is proprietary except the tuners, strap buttons, and screws. It's one of the best fretlesses you'll ever play. Even with the 3-knob format, you can still dial in fat P tones, glassy and clear tones, and a totally sick "Jaco" sound with amazing sustain and beautiful "mwah". These basses used are all over the map, but this one is right in the middle and features a gloss finish and the upgrade option of a second pickup. The road case included is worth a few hundred bucks on its own.
