A streamlined variation on Rickenbacker's iconic bass design, this 2023 4003S combines the unmistakable construction and tonal character of a Rickenbacker with the clean, understated styling historically associated with the company's S-series instruments. Finished in classic Mapleglo, the 4003S features neck-through construction with a maple body and neck, rosewood fingerboard, dot inlays, and an unbound body and fingerboard. The absence of body binding gives the bass softer, rounded body edges and a comfortable playing feel while providing a distinctly more understated appearance than the deluxe appointments of the standard 4003. The S-series design has deep roots in Rickenbacker history, drawing from the early 4001S-style basses famously associated with players including Paul McCartney and Chris Squire. The modern 4003S carries that stripped-down aesthetic forward while retaining the construction and unmistakable sonic identity expected from a contemporary Rickenbacker. Dual Rickenbacker Hi-Gain single-coil pickups provide the model's characteristic combination of clarity, punch, ringing sustain, and upper-midrange definition. Independent volume and tone controls for each pickup and a three-way selector provide a wide range of usable bass sounds, from warm and rounded to aggressive and cutting. With its natural Mapleglo finish, minimalist appointments, and classic Rickenbacker character, the 4003S offers an appealing alternative to the more ornate standard 4003. Includes its original hardshell case.
