1965 Gibson EB-0 - Cherry (Faded to Natural) w/ OSSC
Please see our shops description for contact information and thanks for stopping by Northside Buy & Sell!
Up for sale is a beautiful 1965 Gibson EB-0 short-scale bass in very good vintage condition and perfect working order. This 61-year-old instrument features a solid mahogany body and neck, rosewood fingerboard, and the legendary Gibson neck-position humbucking pickup, delivering the deep, warm, thumping tone these vintage EB-0 basses are known for.
The original Cherry finish has faded considerably over the decades, developing a beautiful brownish, natural mahogany appearance with some remaining cherry coloration visible in control cavity and pickup route. The finish displays plenty of authentic vintage character, including checking, scratches, dings, finish wear, and other signs of age and use. Overall, the instrument presents beautifully for its age.
The rosewood fingerboard is in good vintage condition, with some wear and a small ding in the upper register between frets 14 and 15. The frets appear original and show signs of what may have been a previous level and dress, particularly from approximately the 12th fret upward. A couple frets may have been reseated as well but it’s hard to say as the board and frets cleaned up beautifully. The bass plays well, with a comfortable neck and excellent vintage feel.
The bass appears largely original, including its pickup, hardware, and functional string mute, which remarkably retains its original-style foam in excellent condition. The volume and tone knobs are replacements, and the electronics have received some attention over the years as the volume pot dates to 1974. We believe the tone pot to be original.
The bass is currently fitted with a set of 42–90 gauge flatwound strings, which complement its naturally warm, full-bodied sound beautifully. It plays amazingly with a straight neck, low action and accurate intonation.
