This is a Regal Tiple purchased from the original owner’s wife some 20 years ago. I dated it at 1925, because she told me he bought it in college and he graduated in 1929. I took it to a local licensed luthier who pointed out the following issues: 1) At some point the owner reglued the bridge and did not get this quite right, affecting intonation. It needs to be removed and reset. 2) The neck needs a reset. 3) the tuners were apparently painted with silver paint at some point. This does not affect their function. The only other flaw is that the owner was in a fraternity (SAE) and scratched the letters into the heel. Otherwise, there are no cracks and only minimal signs of wear for a 100 year-old instrument. There are no labels indicating that it’s a Regal, but the inlay and overall appearance matches that of other Regals from the era. This is one of several project pieces I am unlikely to complete due to the demands of work, parenthood, etc. I’m posting it in hopes that someone who has the time and the motivation will bring it back to a playable state. It will be shipped professionally packed and well-protected.
