Condition: Fully Functional – Cosmetic Surface Wear
The MPC works great, with no known functional issues. However, the exterior has noticeable cosmetic changes resulting from cleaning the deteriorating rubberized surface.
About the Infamous MPC Sticky Syndrome
Something many MPC Live and Live II owners encounter, and something not always mentioned in used listings, is the deterioration of the original soft-touch rubberized coating, commonly referred to as Sticky Rubber Syndrome.
Over time, this coating can break down, become tacky, attract dust and grime, and develop an unpleasant sticky feel. Age, environmental conditions, skin oils, and regular handling can contribute to this deterioration.
Akai Professional has published an official support article addressing rubberized component deterioration.
I prefer to be completely transparent about this issue rather than overlook something prospective buyers should know.
This MPC has been extensively cleaned to remove the deteriorated rubberized coating and accumulated grime. During that process, much of the original matte finish was removed, exposing a smoother, shinier surface underneath. Some areas have uneven fading, and portions of the printed lettering were partially rubbed away during cleaning.
These are cosmetic imperfections and do not affect the MPC's operation. Please examine the photographs carefully to see the actual surface condition.
Bottom line: A terrific, fully functional MPC Live II with cosmetic wear from cleaning its deteriorated rubberized finish. If you're more interested in making music than maintaining a showroom-perfect appearance, this is an incredibly capable standalone production machine ready to get back to work!
Fun Fact 🎹
The MPC Live II was the first MPC to feature built-in stereo monitoring speakers. Combined with its rechargeable battery, this means you can sample, sequence, arrange, and produce complete tracks without a computer, external speakers, or even a power outlet!
Ships fast, packed securely, and ready for its next studio, desktop, or standalone beat-making adventure.
