The first D-45 was a dreadnought guitar, based on the D-28, featuring the most luxurious inlays, which was specially crafted for the “Singing Cowboy” Gene Autry in 1933, when he ordered the largest and most elaborate Martin. It is not only considered the absolute flagship of the Standard Series, but as an opulently adorned beauty it is also a Dreadnought with a rich and magnificent sound. The finest woods and extensive, hand-carved inlays of mother-of-pearl and abalone make this guitar one of the most coveted instruments in the luxury class. Yet Martin demonstrates with this D-45 Refresh that even such a fantastic instrument can be improved. Here, you get a superb combination of traditional luxury aesthetics and profound acoustic and ergonomic upgrades, all based directly on feedback from musicians. First, the model features “Golden Era Scalloped Bracing” made of Sitka spruce (forward-shifted, wave-shaped, thinned-out top braces), allowing the solid spruce top to vibrate more freely. As a result the guitar delivers an even more open vintage tone, faster response, richer overtones and noticeably more sustain. Furthermore, the feel and playability have been optimized by refining the neck’s shape with the “Golden Era Modified Low Oval” neck profile to achieve an authentic vintage look, while also offering extremely modern playing comfort thanks to a flatter profile on the first few frets and a high-performance taper. The ebony fingerboard has been sanded slightly thinner — a tribute to Martin’s sought-after pre-war models. Combined with the rounded edges the guitar feels comfortably broken in right away. As the crowning jewel of the Standard Series the D-45 naturally retains all its splendor, but sets new standards with a more finely crafted, slimmer heel and a distinctive, long neck transition to the headstock (diamond volute) in the traditional style. The saddle alignment has been slightly adjusted and now precisely follows the break angle of the headstock, optimizing string action. Thanks in particular to the modified neck and the new bracing the Refresh surpasses the older Reimagined versions — especially in terms of clarity, brightness and performance when fingerpicking — and anyone looking for the typically powerful dreadnought sound with maximum tonal transparency and modern playing comfort has come to the right place. We can offer you this exclusive acoustic guitar in top condition.
